Is there a time frame after quitting my job to receive unemployment benefits?

i had quit my job 2yrs ago and was unable to receive unemployment benefits. i really need the help. will the EDD recognize my hardship and grant me my benefits? my account is not even close to being exhausted. i'm not asking for free money. i'm asking for the revenue i generated myself. is there a time period i have to wait until i'm eligible? keep in mind others have received numerous extensions happily receiving checks in the mail long after they've exhausted their original account. i haven't even been able to tap into my own for over 2 years. i need the help really bad. someone please help?
